Do our hips really need more “opening”?
Can you lead sun salutations without overloading the shoulders, but still include chaturanga or downward-facing dog?
How can you train spinal mobility in an all-levels class so that backbends consistently feel good, every single time?
Is it possible to tackle arm balances and inversions in a way that leaves people empowered rather than intimated—regardless of the class level?
How can you get students to enjoy off-the-mat movement when they’re conventional yoga asana?

The course is totally different to any other Yoga course I have been a part of. Even if 'modern yoga' isn't your vibe, there are incredible nuggets of information that can be subtly applied to a more traditional approach so that students can move in a more sustainable way and find longevity in their practice.

I also loved how rather than judging other approaches (which is something that happens WAY too often in the yoga community) you focused on sharing resources and information in a way that allowed participants to come to their own conclusions about what practices they feel will best support them (both as students + teachers). Thank you for putting this out there - obviously so much thought + hard work went into the program. And it SHOWS.

This course was a big part of what I needed to reboot my own practice and get back into teaching after 3 years of hurdles and injuries. I had the pieces before I learned of DMO but DMO helped me put the puzzle together so that it clicked.

The Movement Map is designed for self-employed movement pros who are ready to future-proof their teaching without overwhelming an already-full schedule.
The bulk of this training is self-paced. The only live element is our weekly coaching call (Thursdays at 10am PT). While you’re not expected to be on the call every week, you should plan to attend at minimum once a month.
You have four months to complete The Movement Map and submit all 4 assignments, which means giving yourself up to one month to spend on each module. Your weekly course commitment doesn’t need to exceed 2 hours.
That time could be spent listening to a podcast from your prep resources, watching a video lesson, taking a class in the virtual studio, or submitting one of the four assignments required for course completion.

Applying key components of the Detour approach to innovative yet accessible Sun Salutations. From spinal articulation and proximal stability to scapular stability and ankle dorsiflexion, this module will have you seeing movement through an entirely new lens.

Applying Lower Body Strength and Mobility to an Integrated Asana Practice. If you love standing postures and never want to part with your forward bends, this is the module for you.

Applying Upper Body Strength and Mobility to an Integrated Asana Practice. Learn to approach even the most intimidating postures with confidence and ease.

Rediscovering Your Practice from the Ground Up. This module embraces play and unstructured movement—the perfect antidote to a practice constrained by routine.
I’m a recovered yoga addict whose chronic injuries drove me to rethink most of what I learned in teacher training. I spent a decade learning from the top minds in the movement, strength, and rehabilitation worlds to create a system where asana—and the strength and mobility work required to support a yoga practice—can serve the needs of real bodies. After sharing this approach from Ireland to Australia, Toronto to LA, I built an online training that’s helped over 500 yoga teachers turn conventional cookie-cutter classes into empowering movement experiences fueled by evidence-based practice and untethered creativity.

4 Detour Maps™ that illustrate how to apply the Isolate-Activate-Integrate framework to any class theme.
Personalized feedback that will highlight what you’re already doing well and pinpoint areas where more clarity and specificity is needed in your class planning and cueing.
Unlimited Access to the Detour Virtual Studio so you’re never left wondering how to apply Movement Map principles to real life classes.

The Detour approach takes the emphasis off 'achieving' a pose and instead invites so much exploration and curiosity. It's more creative and I personally feel like I understand how to support structural integrity now instead of going into ranges of pain in my body. I'm excited to share this with my students.

This course will give you the freedom and the courage to explore yoga through curiosity and critical thinking. You will get the knowledge to prepare your body for poses which were scary for a long time or maybe classified as not good. You will learn how to approach them and create a sequence that can be adjusted to every level, and every BODY is welcome to participate. You will learn how to use your intra abdominal pressure and 360 breath which will make you fall in love with the breath again. The biggest surprise were the restorative yoga lessons. It was my first time I did those classes and was one of the missing pieces in my practice. The course is a perfect combination of playful movement and isolated movement, irradiation and rest. Questioning everything becomes a new habit.
Tracey Fletcher
Leaving the training I felt liberated from the strict guidelines of movement within the yoga sphere and I now sequence and cue with more attention to the intention of the movement/pose. Can’t wait to continue to learn and move with the Detour community!

Those who pay in full will get a bonus 60-minute Stick the Landing session with Cecily where you’ll learn to implement Movement Map content into the class sequences you’re already using to ensure that what you’re sharing from this program lands with your students and elevates their practice.
I’m not a yoga teacher. Can I still take this course?
YES! We’ve designed this course with both students and teachers in mind. As a practitioner, you’ll benefit from the many lessons that focus on waking up different areas of the body, giving you new material to integrate into your normal practice or routine. The checks for understanding along the way will help to ensure that you’re not just going through the motions – you’ll actually know WHY you’re doing things a certain way and how you can continue to progress through these movements in a way that is best for your body.
I’ve been teaching for ages. Will I learn anything new from The Movement Map?
That’s going to depend on a) what you’re looking for and b) what you’ve already done. If you’ve been immersed in non-yoga trainings in the past and have already learned how to integrate mobility training, strength work and non-linear movement into your classes, then you likely already know much of what we’re offering here. But if you’re still teaching largely from a 200HR and 300HR YTT foundation, then YES – you need this training. Even if you are somewhat familiar with the “other stuff” like FRC or PRI, this course will help you figure out how to weave everything together in a way that is authentic and informed.
When does the course start?
We kick things off on September 21, 2026. Enrollment will stay open until the course is at capacity, at which point doors will close until 2027.
How long do I have access to the course content?
You have a four-month window to complete all four training modules and submit your work for feedback.
Where is course content hosted? Is it mobile-friendly?
The Movement Map lives in the Detour Teachers Community hosted on Circle. You can access it through the Circle app, by logging into your profile.
Is this training eligible for CECs with Yoga Alliance?
No, we are consciously not affiliated with Yoga Alliance.
Will I receive a certificate for this training?
Yes, once you’ve completed all four modules and your assessments have been reviewed successfully, you will receive a digital certificate of participation. Keep in mind that this is not a teacher training program or YTT, so you will not receive a certificate to teach.
What is the refund policy?
If you change your mind or discover that this course really isn’t what you need right now, we get it. We also know that life happens, and that circumstances can arise to keep you from participating in this training in the way you first imagined. That’s why we stand by our policy to refund you within 14 days of your start date, no questions asked.
Is this training tax deductible?
If you’re a self-employed yoga teacher/movement instructor/coach you should be able to expense the full cost of this course. We will provide you with an official sales receipt for your records.

Possess a well of tools and resources to transform your personal practice and make your teaching magnetic and engaging
Wish you’d taken this training ages ago

I've taken over 1000 hours of training and each time the teachers say that they're there for us and they fall short. Yoga Detour literally has filled all the missing links that traditional trainings have missed. Course content, delivery, authenticity and down to earth super rad instruction. Thanks YD. I'm a groupie for life.

I've never felt like the yoga education I received prior to DMO equipped me with teaching skills, or gave me the knowledge to work with different bodies and skill levels. This programme has given me such a strong foundational toolkit to build classes and to adapt and personalize cues to the needs of my future students. The experience of being in the Yoga Detour community has given me overwhelming confidence and a belief that I can deliver truly great classes; something no other course either online or in person has ever achieved.
Jane Black
This will be the best decision around continuous improvement and training you'll ever make. It will give you a wealth of tools and more importantly confidence in applying them in a way that makes your classes feel more purposeful, inclusive and fun. You will walk away feeling ready to teach on the fly to any group of students.
